Robert D. Beyer is Chairman of Chaparal Investments LLC, a personal investment and holding company. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of The TCW Group, Inc., a diversified, global investment management firm with assets in excess of $150 billion. During his tenure as President and CEO, the firm achieved record assets under management, which doubled, and profitability, which tripled. In 2001, TCW was sold to Société Générale, one of the 15 largest banks in the world.
In 1991, he co‐founded Crescent Capital Corporation, a leading investment management firm specializing in high yield fixed income, mezzanine lending, bank loans and distressed securities that was acquired by TCW in 1995.
From 1983 until 1991, he was an investment banker and capital markets professional at Bear, Stearns & Co. and Drexel Burnham Lambert. At Drexel, he was appointed to oversee the management, restructuring and ultimately successful liquidation of its $3 billion portfolio leading to the repayment of that firm’s creditors.
Bob is currently a director of two Fortune 500 companies -- The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), the third largest retailer in the world, where he serves as Lead Independent Director, and Leucadia National Corporation (NYSE: LUK), a diversified holding company and the parent company of Jefferies, a global investment banking firm. From 2006 until 2016, he served as a director of The Allstate Corporation (NYSE: ALL), where he was a member of the Executive Committee. In 2008, he was selected as an Outstanding Director by the Financial Times.
Bob is Chair of the Board of Councilors of the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts & Sciences. He is immediate past Chair of the Board of Advisors of The UCLA Anderson School of Management, a member and past Chair of the Harvard‐Westlake School Board of Trustees, and a member of the Board of Directors of Providence Saint John’s Health Center. He was formerly a member of the Board of Airport Commissioners for Los Angeles World Airports and a commissioner of the Los Angeles City Employees Retirement System. He is also an investor in and a member of the Advisory Board of the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club.
Bob received his BS from the University of Southern California in 1981 and his MBA from The UCLA Graduate School of Management (now the Anderson School) in 1983, from which he has received the John E. Anderson Distinguished Alumni award. Bob lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Catherine, and they have four children.
